Mike Smith, PhD
Former USAF Thunderbirds First Sergeant
Mike enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1983 and during the course of his career led several base Honor Guard teams providing military services to fallen comrades and presenting the folded American Flag to countless family members and loved ones. In 2004, Mike became a First Sergeant and was eventually selected to serve as the First Sergeant for the Air Force Thunderbirds, where he was able to travel around the world representing the men and women of the Armed Services. After serving in the Air Force for 26 years, Mike transitioned into the civilian sector where he became a corporate safety manager in a Berkshire Hathaway Energy company and in that role, provided leadership, mentorship and guidance to all company employees. The results of his servant style leadership and ability to foster teamwork culminated in the company being recognized by the Edison Electric Institute as a top decile safety performer, as compared to other industry peers, on a nationwide basis.
Mike received his Bachelors degree in Workforce Education from UNLV, a Masters in Human Relations from The University of Oklahoma, and a PhD in Industrial & Organizational Psychology, with a specialization in Leadership Development and Coaching, from Walden University. Mike is originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and currently resides in Las Vegas, NV with his beautiful wife of 25 years, Trish. They have a son, who is currently in the U.S. Air Force as a B-52 crew chief at Barksdale AFB, LA, and a daughter who resides in Las Vegas.
Mike Smith is currently a Professional Speaker, Coach and Consultant who has worked with Fortune 500 companies such as Johnson & Johnson, Toyota, and most recently Caterpillar, speaking on the topics of Mental Toughness and Approval Addiction. In addition to this, Mike serves in the role of Director of Public Relations for the nonprofit organization, A Patriots Legacy.
